Parent Handbook and Class Information Sessions

The Parent Handbook holds a wealth of information helpful to starting at St. Michael's College.  Including information on Term dates, how to celebrate birthdays, getting involved, lost property, homework, parking and even pets onsite!  Please take the time to read through our Handbook and please reach out if you have any questions.

At the start of the school year, we invite all parents to attend a class-specific information session. For mid-year enrolments Mrs Lizzy Timms will share the link to your class information session with you.

Media Consent and Facebook Groups

When completing the online enrolment contract, parents are asked to consider media consent for their child’s images and/or work to appear online, including:

  • Website
  • Facebook
  • YouTube
  • Instagram; and
  • other social media platforms at the discretion of the College.

As a rule, Facebook posts will be general and pictures will not show names, however, occasionally a first name may be used, with a picture. On rare occasions (and always with parent permission) students’ full name may appear with posts.

Consent can be updated at any time and will override any previous media consent held on file for your child.

Also, from time to time the College will engage a professional marketing company for advertising and promotions. This could include fliers, billboards, Facebook campaigns and YouTube videos. A separate media permission will be sought for professional marketing material and only students with this permission may take part.

SMC Community Facebook group

The College has a Community Facebook group (private) where we share exciting things happening within the classrooms and around the school. It’s not a daily recap but it is used to share pictures of students participating in classroom activities, incursions, excursions and to celebrate achievements. The SMC Community groups is only for parents/caregivers of current enrolled students and once your child’s enrolment is confirmed, you will receive details on how to join .

Year Level Facebook group

Each year level has a dedicated Facebook group for parents only.  The groups are a great way to share information with other parents on topics such as homework, lost hats, details of permission notes, and birthday party invites etc. The group will carry over each new year as you progress through your time with us at St. Michael’s. Again, once your child’s enrolment is confirmed, you will receive details on how to join.

Second Hand Facebook group

The College has Second Hand Uniform Facebook group where parents can buy and sell SMC uniforms.

First Day of School

On your first day, please arrive at your child's classroom between 8.15am and 8.30am to settle your child with their new Teacher, drop off their belongings and find out important information relevant to your new class.

If you have medication for your child, please bring this to Administration after drop off. Any prescription medication must be in the original packaging and contain a chemist label. Scheduled medications will require a Doctor letter with dose instructions.

Carparks

Main Driveway Drop-off Zone

From 8:15am parents can drive down the main driveway (entry via The Abbey Place) until reaching the Admin building. You will be directed to stop to the right of the bus bay (not in the bus bay). We ask the first car to drive all the way to the end to enable maximum number of cars. To keep our students safe, please help your child out of the car and direct them to the opening in the fence. They will then walk down to the crossing where they will be met by a member of staff. It is not necessary to walk your child to the crossing. Do not let your child out of the car on the main driveway, please wait until you are stopped next to the bus bay.

When using the drop off zone outside of Administration, for safety reasons, please DO NOT pass the bus if it is parked and dropping off students. A staff member will come out and collect the students and the bus will move on quickly.

We encourage our infant school parents (Prep-Year 2) to park in the top carpark, accessed from The Abbey Place. We encourage our upper school parents (Year 3 - Year 6) to park in the senior/ELC carpark, accessed from Old Toorbul Point Road. Unless using the drop and go outside Administration, parents are required to walk their children to their classrooms.

STAFF CARPARKS

Please do not park in the staff carparks or in the dental van bay behind Administration as this is utilised daily as a disabled parking bay.

OSHC

OSHC parking is located next to the OSHC building is via the yellow gate. The gate will be open until 8:00am and again after 3:15pm. Exit via the upper school carpark.

Parking on any grassy areas and any area around College buildings at any time (including picking up children after extra curricula activities) is not allowed for safety reasons. Please observe all signage on College grounds.
