We thank you for your interest in enrolling your child at St. Michael’s College.  Please find below an explanation of our enrolment process.  We look forward to meeting you and invite you to make an appointment for a personalised tour of our College.  If you would like to book your tour or if you have any questions about the enrolment process, please contact our College Registrar on 54958311.

Family Interview Process

When a position becomes available, you will be invited to attend a Family Interview where we can meet you and your child, and get to know you.  When enrolling a new student, the College Principal will consider the individual needs of your child in relation to the year level cohort with regards to:

  • Age of student
  • Gender
  • Academic abilities
  • Behavioural traits
  • Learning styles
  • Social/emotional needs
  • Class composition

The enrolment will depend on the Family Interview with you, as well as a review of current information about the child at the time of entry.

Following the interview, the Principal will notify applicants whether their application has been successful or not.

Places are offered to applicants according to the date that the Waiting List Application and Waiting List Application Fee are received by the College, with the following exceptions:

  • First priority is given to siblings of students currently enrolled
  • Second priority is given to students currently enrolled in the St. Michael’s College Early Learning Centre
  • Priority may also be given to applicants under special circumstances by the Principal
Enrolment Process

When we inform you that your application has been successful, you will be asked to confirm your acceptance of the offer by signing an Enrolment Form and providing us with your payment of the $800 Enrolment Bond.  (This Bond will be retained by the College until you no longer have a student enrolled at the College.)

After the Enrolment Form has been signed and the Enrolment Bond paid our College Registrar will liaise with you to arrange class allocation, school fees, book packs and school uniforms.

Early Entry to Prep

Eligibility for Enrolment in Prep

Queensland children are eligible to enrol in Prep, (the first year of school at St. Michael’s College) if they will reach the age of 5 years by the 30th June in their Prep year.

Early Enrolment in Prep
Early entry to Prep is a rare occurrence and only suits the learning needs of a minority of children who are found to be developmentally ready for the school setting in Prep.

Early entry to Prep can be approved by the Principal in the following circumstances:
•    Children whose birthday falls in July, and will turn 5 in the year they attend Prep, (this is the new legislation)
•    Children who have previously enrolled in a ‘school’ setting in another state or country

In these cases, the Principal will decide whether or not the child is ready for education in a school setting.

Our College recommends:
If parents believe that their child may benefit from early entry to Prep, it is recommended that they make  enquiries into Kindergarten attendance in the year prior to Prep. The Kindy program is a highly valued, child-centred program that fosters the social, emotional, physical and academic development of children. The class experience in a Kindy program assists children to thrive in a group setting, and is taught by qualified Early Childhood teachers who provide valuable information to their parents about each child’s development and readiness for school. At St. Michael’s, we believe each child needs a Kindy experience prior to attending Prep.

At our St. Michael’s College ELC, we can be flexible about the ages of children attending Kindy, and can provide families with the opportunity for a Kindy program prior to entry to Prep if considering early entry. In this way, we work with families to agree the best possible way forward through the Kindy and Prep years, (including attending more than one year of those programs if required).

Parents considering early entry can find more information about school readiness on the Information Sheet, and should contact the College to meet with the Principal and to adjust their child’s year of entry on the waiting list.
